Welcome to Podfic Big Bang 2020-2021! Well...it’s been a year, hasn’t it? Sorry for starting things up so late, but with the...everything, and us new mods starting, it took a while to get going! But, Kitsune Heart and AnnabellaLocked are ready to go, and we’re looking forward to helping you all make some truly epic podfics!

What is the Podfic Big Bang?
The Podfic Big Bang encourages participants to make podfics of epic length; 10,000 words or more (more! MORE! MOAR!). Tiny podfics are nice, but sometimes you want something that is just going to suck you in for a day, a week, a month! The 2020-2021 Podfic Big Bang will run from today, September the 6th, until February 27th, 2021, with all fics being revealed on February 28th, 2021.

We recommend you join the PodfiChat Discord group. There are multiple discussion channels, including one just for project and fest discussions, which is where you can keep in touch with one-another outside of check-ins!

Rules

• Minimum length: 10,000 words
  • A multi-part series that adds up to 10,000 or more words is acceptable, but each part posted for PBB must not have been posted before.
  • So, if you’ve posted part 1 of a series, you can do parts 2+ for PBB, but part 1 does NOT count towards the word total.
• You may submit as many qualifying works as you wish (for those podfic robots out there).
• Collaboration is okay, but please specify that you are on a team in the sign-up post, and who you will be working with (in the “Anything you think we should know?” section).

Schedule

• Announcement and sign-ups begin: September 6th, 2020
• Check-in #1: October 10th, 2020
• Check-in #2: November 11th, 2020
• Check-in #3: December 19th, 2020
• Art sign-ups: December 19th, 2020
• Check-in #4: January 23rd, 2021
• Art due: January 15th, 2020:
• Collection opens: February 1st, 2020
• Collection closes: February 27th, 2020
• Collection revealed: February 28th, 2020

Check-ins
Along the way, we’ll have 4 check-ins. Each check-in and the final posting date are spaced 5 weeks apart, across the 25 week PBB season, so when you get to the next check-in, you’ll know you should be about 1/5th done.

Cover art
Along with check-in #3 (December 19th, 2020), we’ll be asking who wants cover art, as well as making posts around the podficcer spaces asking for art volunteers. You can also make your own cover art, collaborate with another participant to exchange cover art, or opt for no art at all.

Posting guidelines
An AO3 collection for Podfic Big Bang 2020-2021 will be opened on February 1st, 2020. This will be an open, unrevealed collection, until closing on February 27th, 2021. (If it’s still the 27th somewhere, you’re good!) On February 28th, the collection will be revealed with a BANG!

Also, are the check ins mandatory or optional? Like, will you be able to keep participating if you miss a check in?

Hi, I've never done a Podfic big bang before. Are we supposed to WRITE a new 10,000 story, which we then record? Or can we podfic a story by another author of which the text has already been posted, but the podfic is new?

No, you don't have to write it, you can definitely pick something which has already been written to record.

Yes! We never gave a deadline to sign up, so we're just considering signups to be a rolling thing. Next PBB, we'll probably have a deadline, but you're in the clear!
